Pecan Valley Pecans: Native Pecans

2006 Harvest Is Ready!

Native pecans have a better flavor than pecans grown for commercial production because of their natural oils. Our pecan buyers search for native pecans in the areas of Texas known for producing the most flavorful pecan to meet our high standards for quality.

Native pecan trees have evolved to their present flavorful state over many centuries. Most native pecan trees are found along the banks of a handful of Texas rivers, streams and flood plains that feature ideal soil, climate and water conditions. A native pecan tree has a life span of over 150 years and can grow to heights and canopy diameters of 150 feet or more.

Native pecan trees are not usually grown in commercial orchards, but rather, were planted by Mother Nature, pioneers and settlers as long ago as the Civil War.
